Nevada Update

The Senate Ethics Committee announced this month the appointment of a special counsel to assist in its inquiry of Sen. John Ensign's extramarital affair with a former staffer and alleged attempts to cover it up.(KAREN BLEIER/Getty Images)

On Friday, state Sen. Greg Brower (R) confirmed he is also running. State GOP Chair Mark Amodei may also run. Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki (R) has also been considering a run, and had originally intended to make a decision after the state's legislative session in June. But Krolicki adviser Ryan Erwin told Hotline On Call Friday that Krolicki would likely have to speed up his decision-making process if Heller is appointed and there is a more immediate opening in the 2nd District. On the Democratic side, former state party chairwoman Jill Derby was already mulling a bid, and state Assemblywoman Debbie Smith and state Treasurer Kate Marshall are also mentioned as possible candidates. -- Jessica Taylor contributed to this post
