What We Learned: Marco Paul-O Edition

February 6, 2011
-- When former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) began to chirp several weeks ago about another presidential run, some took him seriously and see early state visits in his future, while others saw a subtle ploy to keep Giuliani's name relevant and, subsequently, his speaking fees high. Whether or not Giuliani runs remains to be seen, but it seems both parties were right: Rudy has already booked one high-profile (and probably high-paying) speaking engagement -- and it's in New Hampshire. -- Either Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is dead serious about exploring a White House run or she's doing a tremendous job of tricking the media into covering her like a presidential candidate, thereby boosting her national name recognition ahead of a Senate bid. Conventional wisdom still suggests Bachmann is more likely to run against Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D), but the news this week that she's planning a trip to South Carolina later this month -- which will be followed by visits to Iowa in each of the next two months -- means no one can rule out a White House bid.
