Anuzis Could Fill Michigan Vacuum

Anuzis is also coming to Washington this week to meet with new RNC Chair Reince Priebus and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. He will not, however, meet with the National Republican Senatorial Committee. There is some historical precedence for Anuzis. In 1993 when Haley Barbour was elected RNC chair, two unsuccessful RNC Chair candidates, Spence Abraham and John Ashcroft parlayed their RNC bids into winning Senate campaigns the following year in Michigan and Missouri, respectively. That scenario could be reproduced in 2012 with Anuzis and former ambassador Ann Wagner, who also ran for the RNC chairmanship earlier this month and is considering a run for the Senate in Missouri.
