Wagner also said, as chair of Sen.-elect Roy Blunt's (R-Mo.) campaign, she was unhappy with the way the RNC ran and funded the state's field program. "It wasn't the most efficient or best way to run a ground game operation," she said.
Still, she insisted, her bid is not aimed at cutting down Steele.
"I wouldn't be stepping up if I didn't feel that I was offering a new direction," she said. "It is not my intention to be critical or negative about [Steele's] tenure. I just want to offer an alternative."
