Secretive Conservative Front Group Funds Political Attacks

Each day, it seems, brings stunning evidence of how the U.S. campaign finance system, in the wake of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision and its legal descendents, is permitting secret donors to spend millions of dollars to furtively influence the outcome of American elections.

The Center for Responsive Politics, a campaign watchdog group, has discovered that a secretive organization with the innocuous name of the Center to Protect Patients' Rights (CPPR) collected some $55 million from undisclosed donors and distributed the funds to conservative advocacy groups in 2009 and 2010. Much of the money has been spent attacking Democratic House and Senate candidates.
