Rick Santorum may think Mitt Romney is a liar, but he declined to use those words.

Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, Santorum said Romney advocated for the Massachusetts model of health care reform, including support of the government mandate, and then told the public he didn’t.

“[Romney] went out and didn’t tell the truth,” Santorum said. “He repeatedly had big government solutions and then went out and told the public bold face he didn’t.”

But later in the interview, Santorum pivoted away from calling Romney a liar.

“In this case he didn’t say what was the truth,” he said. “To go farther and say he is a liar goes too far.”
