Rick Santorum edges Mitt Romney among Republican primary voters nationwide, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll released on Tuesday.
Thirty percent say they support Santorum, while 27 percent prefer Mitt Romney. Rep. Ron Paul is third with 12 percent, and Newt Gingrich is fourth at 10 percent.
The poll shows a significant drop from a month ago for Romney when he led the field with 28 percent, and Gingrich was second with 21 percent.
The poll was conducted by telephone between Feb. 8 and Feb. 13 among "1,197 adults nationwide. 1,064 interviews were conducted with registered voters and 331 with voters who said they plan to vote in a Republican primary," CBS News said. "The margin of error for the sample of registered voters could be plus or minus three points and five points for the sample of Republican primary voters."
