Santorum Donor Looking Past January—Report

January 27, 2012

A major donor to presidential candidate Rick Santorum says that he plans to help fund pro-Santorum television advertisements in February and March, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Foster Friess, a former investment fund manager who lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, told The Journal that he will channel money into state contests where the former Pennsylvania Senator is more likely to win or gain delegates.

"You don't want to put all your lead on the target. You want to leave some arrows in the quiver," Friess told The Journal. He said that it’s “not realistic” that Santorum can win the Florida primary next week.

Friess told The Journal that he’ll be looking at the Nevada caucus on Feb. 4, the Colorado caucus on Feb. 7, and the Michigan primary on Feb. 28.

Friess is the largest donor to the Red, White and Blue Fund, a super PAC backing Santorum, The Journal reported. Friess and his family members have donated over $70,000 directly to Santorum’s campaigns over the course of the former Senator’s career, The Journal reported.
