Santorum Corrects Wall Street Journal on Tax Plan

February 24, 2012 | 9:15 p.m.

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum responded via letter to a Wall Street Journal article that mistated a detail of his tax plan. The article stated Santorum's tax plan would triple the child credit when, according to Santorum, it would actually triple the personal exemption for dependent children.

"The effects are far different," Santorum wrote, pointing out how a personal exemption would lower tax liability for a family in the 10% bracket while a child credit would far more significantly reduce tax liability for a wider number of families.

"If the charge is that I have a plan that favors hard-working American families, then yes, I am guilty. If the charge is that I am expanding welfare, then I am innocent," Santorum writes.
