Romney Web Video Compares National Debt to Prairie Fire

In an ominous new web video that compares the national debt to a prairie fire, Mitt Romney accuses President Obama of feeding the debt crisis.

The ad, entitled “Prairie Fire,” opens with an image of a picturesque farm threatened by menacing black clouds. Romney’s disembodied voice proclaims: “A prairie fire of debt is sweeping across the nation.”

As sinister music plays, images of those same black clouds threatening a suburban housing complex, and then a city apartment building, flash across the screen.  “Every day that we fail to act, that fire gets closer to the homes and the children we love,” Romney’s voice says.

Romney’s voice blames President Obama for deepening the debt crisis by continued borrowing and spending.

“Rather than putting out that spending fire, President Obama has been feeding it,” Romney says. “The time has come for a president who will lead us out of this debt and spending inferno.”

Romney first made this comparison in May at a campaign event in Iowa, as a summer of real wild fires and droughts began to sweep the Midwest. Romney told Iowa voters that they could count on him to “put out the fire.”
