Mitt Romney is apparently not very popular with his San Diego neighbors.
Several of Romney’s neighbors in La Jolla, a ritzy area in Southern California, are interviewed in a report in Thursday’s Home and Garden section of the New York Times, and they have some qualms with the Republican nominee.
Romney bought the $12 million, Spanish-style, three-bedroom home four years ago with little objection. However, when the Romneys decided to quadruple the size of the home, it threatened the ocean view for many of their neighbors.
Furthermore, the candidate’s conservative politics also bother some in his neighborhood. And the objections don’t end there. One neighbor said that Romney complained about his marijuana usage. A police officer said told the man, “'Your neighbors have complained,'” he recounted. “He was pretty clear that it was the Romneys.”
Some, however, are pleased with Romney’s presence, saying it could raise home values by 10 percent.
On MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Thursday, several members of the panel took issue with the report, most notably host and former Rep. Joe Scarborough, who said that Sen. John Kerry’s elaborate homes were not given the same treatment by the Times in 2004.
