President Obama has shown “breathtaking weakness” in his dealings with Russia, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney wrote in an op-ed for Foreign Policy.
Romney has criticized Obama’s ‘hot mic’ comment to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, in which Obama said that more “flexibility” will be possible on nuclear security issues after the U.S. presidential election. In his op-ed on Tuesday, Romney writes that granting Russia more "flexibility" is code for capitulating to Russian demands.
“For three years, the sum total of President Obama's policy toward Russia has been: "We give, Russia gets,’” the former Massachusetts governor wrote.
“Without extracting meaningful concessions from Russia, he abandoned our missile defense sites in Poland. He granted Russia new limits on our nuclear arsenal. He capitulated to Russia's demand that a United Nations resolution on the Iranian nuclear-weapons program exclude crippling sanctions,” Romney said.
Romney also asked if "post-election 'flexibility'" would empower Obama to take a softer line with Iran and Cuba, or to further reduce Navy and Air Force troops.
