Campaign 2012

Report: Romney Sells Access to 'Presidential Inauguration Retreat'

For $50,000, top donors gain huge access to the presumptive nominee.

For $50,000, Mitt Romney is offering top donors access to a “Presidential Inaugural Retreat,” just one of the perks that come with contributions to a fundraising committee called "Romney Victory," BuzzFeed reports.

According to an email obtained from a top Romney supporter in Georgia, big campaign donors can gain valuable access to the former Massachusetts governor, including one perk -- the inaugural retreat -- that assumes Romney wins the White House. The donors, according to BuzzFeed, will be named "Founding Members" of the committee, and invited to several events with Romney.

Many presidents have offered top donors access to special events at inaugurations, political conventions and at the White House in the past, including President Obama. However, this treatment is often met by scrutiny and criticism from rivals, including the Romney campaign.
