House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Sunday joined the recent parade of public figures rallying behind a Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential bid in 2016.
During an appearance in the 92nd Street Y Campaign for the American Conversation series on Sunday night, a recording of which was obtained by BuzzFeed, Pelosi said she would “love” to see the secretary of State become the Democratic nominee for president in 2016.
“I do think the secretary should entertain the thought of running in 2016,” Pelosi said. “Hasn’t she been a magnificent secretary of State?”
Over the past few weeks, several big names in politics have voiced support of the former first lady’s presidential prospects, including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, and Democratic strategists James Carville and David Plouffe.
Most recently, former President Clinton told ABC News on Monday morning that he’d be “happy” if his wife decided to try her hand once again at the White House.
“I want her to do what she wants to do,” Clinton said, adding that “if she changes her mind and decides to run, I’ll be happy.”
