Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush recently urged Mitt Romney to choose Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., as his running mate, Bush told the Associated Press in an interview on Wednesday.

Bush, who has repeatedly ruled out any interest in the Republican ticket this year, has been a longtime supporter of Rubio; he backed Rubio over Florida Gov. Charlie Crist in their 2010 primary. In his pitch to Romney, Bush said, he conveyed that he thinks the Florida senator is ready to be vice president. He said that Romney did not reveal to him whom he will choose.

Bush also criticized President Obama’s campaign in the interview: "He believes it's easier to win a close election by dividing rather than trying to find solutions."

"I think the next president should be focused on problem solving rather than making political points," Bush said.

In March, Bush told the Tampa Bay Times, "I'm not going to be the vice president."
