With President Obama’s fundraising numbers continue to lag behind Mitt Romney’s, Democrats have drafted a high-profile politician known for raising big money and throwing a few political punches -- Rahm Emanuel.

The Chicago mayor and former Obama chief of staff is eaving his position as honorary chairman of the Obama campaign to raise money for the Democratic National Committee, which donates to both congressional and presidential races, according to The Washington Post.

Emanuel -- who was a prodigious Democratic fundraiser as a House member from Illinois -- spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night, calling Obama a “once-in-a-generation president.”
