Mitt Romney is leading President Obama by a single point among likely voters in Florida, 49 percent to 48 percent, according to a CNN/ORC poll released on Friday. The lead is within that question’s margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
The poll, conducted on Wednesday and Thursday, accounts for voter reaction to Tuesday’s presidential debate, in which instant reaction polls gave Obama a slight edge over his Republican challenger.
Though the debate prominently featured women’s issues, an area in which Obama is considered to have the edge, the poll showed Obama up only 2 points among women, 49 percent to 47 percent, within the margin of error of plus or minus 5.5 percentage points in that area.
Obama and Romney split independent voters in the state, polling at 46 percent each.
Voter preference was more sharply split along age and class lines, with older and richer voters favoring Romney decisively, and younger and poorer voters favoring Obama.
Eight percent of respondents said they may switch their support between now and Election Day.
The poll surveyed 922 registered voters and 681 likely voters.
