A Bloomberg National Poll shows Mitt Romney is supported by 37 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents nationwide, compared with 27 percent for Santorum, 13 percent for Newt Gingrich and 11 percent for Rep. Ron Paul.
Santorum’s one area of strength was among evangelical Christians, where he leads Romney 42 percent to 28 percent. Among tea party supporters , Romney and Santorum drew equal support at 31 percent.
Among those who list unemployment and jobs as their top priority, 52 percent chose Romney, and by that same number, respondents believe Romney has the best chance of beating President Obama.
However, Romney’s unfavorability rating has climbed 10 points in the Bloomberg poll since September, to 48 percent. Santorum’s unfavorability rating is up 9 points, to 44 percent. Gingrich’s unfavorability rose just four points, although it’s the highest at 59 percent. Paul’s unfavorability is 44 percent, up 3 points from September.
