A new Univision poll of Latino voters in 21 states shows President Obama running as strong as he did among that key -- and growing -- voting group in 2008.
According to the poll, conducted by Latino Decisions, when Obama is matched against the three top GOP contenders, he earns between 65 and 68 percent of the vote. In 2008, Obama won 67 percent of the Hispanic vote, according to exit polls that showed Hispanics accounted for 9 percent of the electorate.
Nearly two-thirds of Latino voters in the poll approve of the job Obama is doing as president, also nearly identical to his share of the Hispanic vote in 2008.
Meanwhile, on a generic congressional ballot, Democrats leads Republicans among these voters, 58 percent to 18 percent. Democrats carried Hispanics in 2088, 68 percent to 29 percent, though Republicans made some gains in 2010, when Democrats led, 60 percent to 38 percent.
The poll was conducted Oct. 21-Nov. 1 in the 21 states with the largest Latino populations in the United States, where 95 percent of U.S. Latinos reside, Univision reported.
