President Obama heads into the general election season with a considerable lead in electoral votes, according to a new analysis by the Associated Press.
He has 242 electoral votes of the 270 needed to win in states that are solidly Democratic or that lean Democratic. Likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney has 188 electoral votes in states that are solidly Republican or lean to the GOP, according to the AP’s count.
Another 104 electoral votes are up for grabs in nine swing states, which the news service lists as: Colorado (9), Florida (29), Iowa (6), New Hampshire (3), New Mexico (5), Nevada (6), North Carolina (15), Ohio (18) and Virginia (13).
