President Obama’s campaign will launch a statewide campaign this week highlighting his role in the automaker bailout, The Detroit News reports.
The campaign will focus not just on the car makers themselves, but will also highlight manufacturers, restaurants and tourist destinations that benefited from the government’s actions.
Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., will help launch what is being dubbed the “Michigan Road to Recovery Tour” on Monday with a conference call for reporters.
Events are being planned statewide through Friday, according to The News. The campaign comes after a recent poll showing Mitt Romney and Obama in a virtual dead heat in Michigan. A Republican has not won the state since 1988.
