CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story misidentified the publication where Andrew Sullivan works.
The May 21 cover of Newsweek declares Barack Obama the nation’s “first gay president,” according to several reports, with an image featuring the president staring off into space with a rainbow halo over his head.
The accompanying cover story, now available online, was written by The Daily Beast's Andrew Sullivan, who is gay. Sullivan describes bursting into tears during the interview that aired on Good Morning America last week in which Obama supported gay marriage.
“Like many others, I braced myself for disappointment,” Sullivan wrote. “And yet when I watched the interview, the tears came flooding down. The moment reminded me of my own wedding day.”
The magazine goes on sale on Monday.
