The Romney campaign is accusing President Obama of lying in its latest attack ad released on Thursday.
The 30-second spot, called “No Evidence,” hits Obama for running a dishonest campaign against the presumptive Republican nominee.
Team Obama has attacked Romney over outsourcing jobs overseas while he was at Bain Capital, a claim that the Romney campaign has called misleading and unfair.
“When a president doesn't tell the truth,” the narrator says, “how can we trust him to lead?”
Later, former Obama rival Hillary Rodham Clinton makes a cameo in the ad. “So, shame on you, Barack Obama,” the ad shows her saying in 2008.
“But America expects more from a president,” the narrator says. “Obama’s dishonest campaign: Another reason America has lost confidence in Barack Obama.”
On Thursday, Romney senior advisor Ed Gillespie would not go as far as to call the president a liar, but he furthered the ads attacks, saying the Obama campaign is putting out false ads across the country.
“We have an obligation to make sure when voters go vote, they vote on true information,” he said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “And right now, the Obama campaign ads have been shown to be demonstrably false, and that's another way of saying a lie.”
Gillespie also said that allegations over when Romney actually left Bain were false. However, according to a Boston Globe article, Romney may have left Bain three years later than he claimed.
