Mitt Romney launched a new campaign ad on Wednesday attacking President Obama for trying to distract from what the ad calls the administration's failed energy policies by blaming the GOP for rising prices at the pump.
The Obama “attack machine” is “spending millions to sling mud … er, oil at Mitt Romney,” the announcer says in the ad, because gas prices have doubled in the five states where Obama is running ads against the GOP front-runner. The ad shows prices of gas in 2009 and 2011 in Ohio, Iowa, Virginia, Florida, and Nevada.
“Obama’s mud can’t cover up his failed energy policies,” the voice says, “policies that are hurting small businesses and working families.”
The ad comes on the heels of recent ads released by the Obama camp and the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA that defend the president’s record on oil prices and attempt to tie Romney to “Big Oil.” Both ads were responding to an anti-Obama ad from American Energy Alliance, a Republican-leaning nonprofit, that claimed Obama’s energy policies would lead to $9 gas.
