As the presidential candidates campaign in Ohio this week, Mitt Romney’s campaign released a new TV ad that attacks President Obama for waging “a war on coal.”
The ad, entitled “Bankrupt,” shows a 2008 clip of Obama saying that building a coal-powered plant will “bankrupt” businesses.
“President Obama is attacking Mitt Romney because Mitt Romney supports coal miners,” the voiceover says, “but it’s Barack Obama who said ‘So, if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it’ll bankrupt them.’”
The ad accuses Obama of waging “a war on coal” while American workers lose jobs to China. A press release accompanying the ad cites a U.S. Energy Information Administration report that calls China the world’s largest coal producer and consumer.
“Now, your jobs are in danger,” the voiceover says. “Mr. President, let us keep our jobs.”
