Newt Gingrich knows how to appeal to racists, former President Jimmy Carter said Wednesday in a CNN interview.
Carter stopped short of calling Gingrich, the former House speaker and current Republican presidential candidate, a racist.
"I wouldn't say he's racist, but he knows the subtle words to use to appeal to a racist group," Carter said in an interview set to air on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight.
