After suffering the wink-wink derision of the political establishment and the jokes of late night comics, Iowa is fighting back on YouTube.
A video put out by an outfit called Iowa Filmmakers is going viral as a very clever back-atcha from everyday Iowans on the day they head to their vaunted precinct caucuses to help select a president. The spot features a young man named Scott Siepker riffing on the notion of Iowa as quaint, bumpkinish, and too nice. He looks smugly into the camera and offers a cutting, point-by-point defense of his landlocked state, with comments like, “One Iowa farmer feeds 155 of you. You like to eat.… Looks like it.”
It ends with Siepker shoving a handful of cake into his mouth. And eating it, too.
Caution to consumers: One version of the video on YouTube includes a few “f-bombs.” In a sanitized version (above), the word is replaced by the sound of a chicken squawking.
