In a direct appeal to Florida seniors, Mitt Romney’s campaign released a new ad on Monday featuring Florida Sen. Marco Rubio touting the benefits of Romney’s plan for Medicare.

The ad, entitled “Least We Can Do,” shows Rubio speaking into the camera about his 81-year-old mother, whom he says depends on Medicare.

Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, won’t change Medicare for current seniors, Rubio says, instead arguing that they will save the program for future generations.

“Medicare is going broke. Anyone who wants to leave Medicare like it is, is for letting it go bankrupt,” Rubio says in the ad. “We can save Medicare without changing [my mother's Medicare plan], but only if younger Americans accept that our Medicare will be different than our parents’ when we retire in 30 years.”

Romney has loosely backed Ryan’s plan for Medicare, which would keep the program for current seniors, but provide future seniors with the option to use government vouchers to pay for competing private health care plans.

Rubio, a Latino, also appeals to a key demographic that national polls show strongly leans Democratic: Hispanic voters.
