The spokesman for the pro-Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future said on Wednesday that “Rick Santorum might be able to win if he could speak English,” taking a jab at the former Pennsylvania senator for a goof in his speech on Tuesday night.
Speaking on MSNBC’s Jansing & Co., Rick Tyler said that the outcome of last night’s primaries in Arizona and Michigan gave Newt Gingrich an opening. “Rick Santorum failed to win, but Mitt Romney failed to inspire,” Tyler said. “Rick Santorum might win if he could speak English.”
Tyler said in an email on Wednesday that he was referencing a Santorum speech to supporters in which he made a grammatical error, telling them, "a month ago, they didn't knew who we are. They do now."
"I was suggesting, in jest, that he might have won if he had not lost the 'educated snobs' vote by butchering the English language," Tyler wrote in the email.
Santorum made several controversial remarks in the weeks leading up to the Michigan and Arizona primaries, including calling President Obama a "snob" as he criticized the president's education agenda.
