After calling President Obama “the most dangerous president in modern American history” over the weekend, GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich continued his attacks on the president early Tuesday, criticizing him over his national security record.
Obama’s foreign policy “has been so effective, they barely got a guy on Saturday who’s tried to blow up the U.S. Capitol,” Gingrich said on CBS's The Early Show, referring to an incident on Friday in which a 29-year-old Moroccan man was arrested in an FBI sting for allegedly plotting a shooting spree and suicide bombing at the Capitol building.
Gingrich also weighed in on next Tuesday's GOP primary contest in Michigan where GOP rival and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum has been edging former Massachusett’s governor Mitt Romney in recent polls.
A Santorum win in Michigan—Romney’s home state—would be “an enormous defeat for Mitt Romney,” Gingrich said.
“This is Romney’s home turf,” Gingrich said. “He was supposed to have carried [Michigan] easily. The very fact it’s so close means it’s a wide open race.”
