Mitt Romney now has the backing of former President George W. Bush, reports ABC News.
It didn't come at a staged campaign event or even in a formal announcement by the candidate. Rather, Bush endorsed the presumptive nominee in passing as his elevator door closed at a human rights event in Washington. Answering a question called out by a reporter, Bush said, "I'm for Mitt Romney."
Bush has been absent from the campaign trail. Earlier, both his brother, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and father, former President George H.W. Bush endorsed Romney's candidacy. But the still-unpopular 43rd president has yet to appear in the same photo frame with Romney.
On Tuesday, he was at an event to promote the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s campaign for human rights activists around the world.
