The first votes of the 2012 general election have already been tallied in two small villages in northern New Hampshire, who cast their ballots shortly after midnight.
While President Obama and Mitt Romney tied with 5 votes a piece in Dixville Notch, the president came ahead with more votes in the village of Hart’s Location. Obama secured 23 votes, while Romney got 9 votes and Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson earned one, NBC News reports.
In total, voting took 5 minutes, 42 seconds in Hart’s Location and just 43 seconds in Dixville Notch.
The two villages have enjoyed the first vote in the election since 1948.
