LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday referred to Virginia Senate hopeful Tim Kaine as "Tom Kaine," prompting a derisive response from Mitt Romney's campaign.
At a rally in Lynchburg, Biden said of the former Virginia governor and Democratic National Committee chairman: "There is a decent, honorable man. That man has more integrity in his little finger than most have in their whole body. I’m a big Tom Kaine fan. I’m a big Tom Kaine fan.”
Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams said in a statement: “Vice President Biden forgot the name of his own Virginia Democratic Senate nominee, and he wants voters to forget about President Obama’s failed economic policies and lack of a real agenda for a second term."
Kaine, however, took the mix-up in stride. He said in a tweet: "Thanks to the VPOTUS for the shout out today. I love Jay Biden!"
