Mitt Romney’s wife said Friday that the presidential candidate’s father, George Romney, the former chief executive of American Motors, “would be cheering and would be with Mitt 100 percent” on his stance on the auto bailouts.
Appearing on Fox News’s Fox & Friends, Ann Romney responded to former President Bill Clinton, who said Thursday that Romney’s “daddy must be turning over in his grave,” when thinking about how his son opposed the automaker bailout. “Oh, no, Mitt’s father would be cheering and would be with him 100 percent,” she said. “Mitt’s father would be cheering, cheering Mitt.”
She also equated watching her husband stump and debate as a gut-wrenching experience. “It’s the same thing when you’re a mother watching a child play sports. You’re on the sidelines and you’re hurting for them. Your heart’s there and you love them.”
