During a week in which the campaign for president took a particularly ugly turn, Mitt Romney’s wife had some fairly nice things to say about President Obama and his family.

In an interview with NBC that aired on Thursday, Ann Romney was asked if she could say anything nice about Obama. Her response: “All of us are so proud that America backed him and I think that piece of it is never going to go away.” She later added that Obama’s presidency is a testament to the fact that America is a place where anything is possible. “I think it’s a thrill for all of us to have him as a president,” she said.

She also had praise for Michelle Obama and her “Let’s Move!” initiative, calling it “wonderful.”

“Obesity is a huge problem in this country,” she said.
