The writer-director of the television series and movie Friday Night Lights has accused Mitt Romney of having “plagiarized” the phrase “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.” by using it on the campaign trail, according to a letter obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
“Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series,” Peter Berg writes, concluding the letter with, “Please come up with your own campaign slogan.”
The phrase, written for the television show, also appears prominently on Romney’s offical Facebook page. Romney started using the phrase on Oct. 5, when he first told the story of David Oparowski, a boy he ministered to and wrote a will for.
Romney and his wife are reportedly fans of the television show, and Buzz Bissinger, the author of the book upon which the show and movie are based, endorsed Romney in an op-ed in The Daily Beast on Monday. The Republican's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
