Tweeting the RNC: A Crescendo to Ryan

The number of tweets per minute using the hashtag #GOP2012 reached a peak—6,669—at 11:04 p.m. on Wednesday night, right as Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Paul Ryan concluded his speech, according to data supplied by Twitter.
The second-highest peak, at 6,470 tweets, was at 10:58 p.m. when Ryan broached the subject of religion, saying: "Mitt and I also go to different churches. But in any church, the best kind of preaching is done by example. And I’ve been watching that example. The man who will accept your nomination tomorrow is prayerful and faithful and honorable."
More than ten minutes before that, at 10:44 p.m., 5,999 tweets were sent as Ryan said "They have no answer to this simple reality: We need to stop spending money we don’t have."
Other peaks occurred at 10:10 p.m., 9:51 p.m., and 8:15 p.m., all at the conclusions of speeches delivered by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former presidential candidate and radio host Mike Huckabee, and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., respectively.
Among National Journal's Politerati, tweets peaked—led mostly by Republican insiders—at 10:10 p.m. shortly before former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice wrapped up her speech.
