South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley

A Democratic state party chairman on Wednesday compared a prominent Republican to a Nazi—the second time this week that has happened.

South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian made the latest reference at a delegation breakfast after mentioning that Republican Gov. Nikki Haley had held a briefing in the basement of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

“She was down in the bunker a la Eva Braun,” Harpootlian said of Haley, according to South Carolina's The State newspaper.

In 1945, Braun holed up in a Berlin bunker with longtime companion Adolf Hitler as the Red Army advanced on the city. The two later committed suicide.

On Monday, California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton compared Republicans and GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan of Wisconsin to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels. He later offered a qualified apology.
