Ahead of the convention – which typically offers a boost in the polls – Mitt Romney now holds a slight lead in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll released on Monday. But there are warning signs for the soon-to-be Republican nominee: a majority of those polled think he’ll favor the rich.
Romney leads Obama 47 percent to 46 percent – well within the margin of error. It is the seventh time in 14 polls by ABC that Romney has held a lead.
But 58 percent of registered voters said that Romney would favor the wealthy over the middle class.
The bad news for Obama is that his support has declined, from 51 percent in April to 46 percent in the latest poll.
The poll was conducted by telephone from Aug. 22 to 25 among a random national sample of 857 registered voters. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
