Former President George H. W. Bush will miss the Republican National Convention in Tampa this summer due to health problems, The Hill reports.
This year will be the only party convention that the 41st president has skipped since he attended his first in 1980, when he was nominated as vice president.
Bush, 88, has a condition that has confined him to a wheelchair for the past several months.
"President and Mrs. Bush are more convinced today than ever that we need to get behind Mitt and Ann Romney to help turn this country around,” Bush spokesman Jim McGrath told The Hill on Monday, “but sadly the situation around President Bush's mobility will prevent them from attending the Tampa convention.”
